| Sledding at Max Patch? | 01/24/2009 | If it happens to snow, we plan to go sledding at Max Patch. If it doesn't snow, we plan to go camping on Friday night at Cade's Cove and then hike on Saturday. |
| Winter Campout | 02/20/2009 | February 20-21. We try to get out in the winter. Freezing cold temperatures? No problem. This will be a car camping trip where we arrive on Friday evening and camp overnight, eat a big, warm breakfast, and then go on a beautiful hike in the Smokies. |
| Day Hike- Jake's Creek | 03/28/2009 | This is a day hike to Jake's Creek trail and up to the top of Blanket Mountain. Here is a description from
Trails.com This hike starts along noisy Jakes Creek and ends atop Blanket Mountain, site of a former fire tower. Despite forest encroachment, an open glade still persists on top of the mountain and makes an ideal spot for a 4,600-foot-high country picnic on top of old Smoky. Follow a railroad grade most of your journey in this watershed of bygone logging and human settlement. |
| Canoeing Trip | 04/18/2009 | April 18-19. This is an overnight canoe trip. We plan to go down the Holston River, just outside of Knoxville. If we can't get permission to camp along the river, we will find an alternate river. |
| Roan Mountain- Backpacking | 05/15/2009 | May 15- 17 (Friday- Sunday) This is a new location for our troop, and sure to be beautiful. We plan to dump camp on Friday night, and then head up the Appalachian Trail Saturday morning. We'll camp in the backcountry and do some exploring of the Southern Appalachian balds. This is camping at high elevations, so be sure and be prepared for cold and windy conditions. |
| National Trails Day- Service Project | 06/06/2009 | For the last two years, we've participated in National Trails Day, and had a great time. In 2007, we maintained a mile of the Appalachian Trail. In 2008, we carried mulch to trail shelters in the Smokies to be used in the privies. We enjoyed it so much, we signed up again this year. |
| Summer Camp- Camp Buck Toms | 06/14/2009 | June 14-19 What can we say about good ol' Camp Buck Toms? Deluxe accommodations (no extra charge for the spiders), gourmet food (seeeeeecooooonds...), and lots of cool merit badges. This is a great place and we always have a wonderful time. You can view photos from 2006 here. |
| Day Hike | 07/11/2009 | We've got a day hike planned for July. We don't know where yet, but we're guessing it's in the woods somewhere. |
| Rafting- Hiwassee River | 08/09/2009 | The Hiwassee River is beautiful, with small, fun rapids and clear water. We plan to raft down it on Saturday, August 9th. We may decide to camp overnight the night before. We'll let you know more as we get closer to that time. |
| Bicycling or Cooking | 09/19/2009 | This outing is identical to the march outing. We might bicycle, or we might cook, but probably not both. |
| Grayson Highlands Backpacking | 10/16/2009 | October 16-18 (Friday-Sunday) Grayson Highlands is one of our favorites. It is beautiful, high country with wild ponies, giant rock outcroppings, and long views. You can view photos from a previous trip here. |
| Annual Planning Retreat | 11/13/2009 | On November 13 and 14, we'll have our annual planning retreat where we look back over the last year, and ahead to the next. This is always a great time, with lots of great food. |
| Knox Area Rescue Ministries- Service Project | 12/21/2009 | For the third year in a row, we plan to serve dinner at Knox Area Rescue Ministries. This is a neat time for our troop to serve others. |
